Public and Educational Programs at The National World
War II Museum

The Red Ball Express

The National World War II Museum has revived the mission of the historic Red Ball Express--the famed transportation unit that supplied the Allied armies fighting through France after D-Day. Except rather than delivering crucial wartime supplies, our outreach educator delivers crucial WWII education to students of all ages throughout the Greater New Orleans region in our specially-outfitted Red Ball Express Outreach Van.

Lunchbox Lectures
The Lunchbox Lecture series offers visitors interesting and entertaining discussions-presented by staff and other local historians-on a variety of WWII subjects. Lecture titles have included The Battle of the Bulge, Women in WWII, The Invasion of Guadalcanal, and The London Blitz. These lectures are held twice a month on a Wednesday and are free and open to the public. No reservations are required.
Visit our calendar to see what topics we have in store.
Evening Programs
Evening lectures, slide presentations, and panel discussions on a variety of WWII-related topics complement the information presented in the Museum's exhibits. Past program titles have included Through My Sights: A Gunner's View of WWII, U-Boats in The Gulf of Mexico, The Hypnosis of Hitler, and Bombing the Color Line: The Black Press During WWII.
Living History Corps
One Saturday each month and on holidays, our group of talented WWII re-enactors speaks with visitors about the uniforms, weapons, equipment, and daily life of soldiers in WWII. Encamped throughout the Louisiana Memorial Pavilion, these re-enactors bring history to life by encouraging hands-on interaction with adults and children alike.
Band Performances and Concerts
The WWII years produced a wealth of patriotic and entertaining music. The Museum hosts performances by local bands and vocal groups as well as traveling groups from around the country. These performances both entertain and enlighten visitors about the music and moods of WWII-era America.
Holiday Activities
The Museum provides entertaining and educational activities, including musical performances and reenactments, for holidays throughout the year (including Veterans Day, Fourth of July, D-Day, and Pearl Harbor Day).
