Lagniappe Lecture: “Soldier Slaves” and the Quest for Justice |
| James Parkinson will speak about his book Soldier Slaves, Abandoned by the White House, Courts and Congress, recounting his efforts to obtain compensation for U.S. soldiers who were used as slave laborers following their capture on Bataan. A lawyer, Mr. Parkinson invested six years of his time in court and in the halls of Congress in a quest for justice. Ultimately, the case was lost in the courts and when Parkinson turned to Congress, the Bush administration twice killed the legislation. After reading Soldier Slaves, Tom Brokaw wrote: “This long overdue story of great court courage and great suffering rewarded with great injustice should be required reading for every member of Congress. It is a tale to make you at once proud and angry.” Book signing to follow. This lecture is free. For more information call 504-527-6012 x 225. |
